Base central and together, within walking distance of the Aliados avenue — that puts you on foot to the nightlife, the river and the restaurants. The two areas to know:
Ribeira — the pretty riverside (photos, dinners, golden hour)
The UNESCO-listed old town along the Douro, under the Dom Luís I bridge — the most photogenic corner of the city and the place for a group dinner, first drinks and the shots everyone posts. It is more about charm than late-night dancing (and the waterfront charges a premium), so we use it as the beautiful early-evening opener.
Galerias de Paris / Rua Cândido dos Reis — the bar street (your night out)
Two connecting central streets packed with small bars — cocktail spots, live music and late venues — with the crowd spilling into the street until it becomes a party on its feet. You can bar-hop several places on foot without a taxi. Local insider tip: it starts late — quiet before 11pm, properly kicking after midnight. So we open with a Ribeira dinner and drinks, then move the group to the bar street when it is actually buzzing.

Best time of year for a Porto hen
Be honest with the group about the weather: Porto is cooler and can be wetter than the south. Spring (April–June) is the sweet spot — warm, drier, long light evenings and fewer crowds. Summer (July–August) is warmest and driest and best for the boat, but busiest and priciest. September–October still gives lovely days and harvest season at the cellars. Winter is mild but grey and wet — cheapest, and the bars, tastings and classes all still run, but the daytime is compromised. If your group can time it, São João (the night of 23 June) is Porto's giant citywide street party and the most fun night of the year to be in the city — just book beds months ahead, because the whole city is out.
How many days should you plan?
Three days / two nights is the sweet spot and what most of our Porto hens book: fly in Friday, headline day Saturday, home Sunday. Getting from Porto airport
You will fly into Francisco Sá Carneiro (OPO), about 11km north of the centre and very well connected to the UK — direct flights from airports right across the country, so hens flying in from different cities can still land close together. The Metro (purple Line E) runs straight from the terminal into the city in around 30–35 minutes for a couple of euros, but for a group with bags and sashes we arrange a private minibus transfer door-to-door (roughly 20–25 minutes) so you land and go straight to your base together, with the prosecco already on ice.
