Right, let's cut through it. You've been handed the maid-of-honour crown, and somewhere in Portugal there's a weekend with the bride's name on it. The good news: the Algarve is one of the best places on earth to send off a bride — and you've landed on a guide written by the people who actually run these weekends on the ground.
We're Fun in Portugal, and we've been organising and running stag and hen weekends across Lisbon, Porto and the Algarve since 2008 — the local operator here in Portugal, on the boats, at the villa gate, saving your table at the beach club. That means first-hand answers instead of a brochure, and no middleman inflating the bill. When you book a hen party in the Algarve direct with us, you're paying for the party, not the agency in between.
Why the Algarve for a hen do?
Because it does the impossible: it's a proper party destination and a genuinely beautiful one. Golden cliffs, warm sea, private villas with pools, world-class beach clubs and a nightlife strip that goes till sunrise, all within a short drive. Flights from the UK are short and cheap, English is spoken everywhere, and the sun is close to guaranteed from late spring through autumn. It flexes too — a wild all-nighter with a boat party and a nightclub, or a classier prosecco-and-spa weekend.
Best area to base your hen: Vilamoura vs Albufeira vs Lagos
Albufeira is the party capital, with two sides. The Strip (Avenida Sá Carneiro) is the neon, mini-Vegas end — big clubs, international DJs from around 1–2am. Albufeira Old Town is prettier and more grown-up: cobbled squares, cocktail bars, live music. Our take: base near the Old Town and taxi to The Strip for the big night.
Vilamoura is the polished choice — a glossy marina with upmarket restaurants and beach clubs. Calmer and more exclusive, brilliant for a classier hen, and the easiest transfer from Faro (about 25km).
Lagos is the pretty, laid-back westerly option: stunning coastline, the best boat trips through the Ponta da Piedade sea caves, and a younger, bohemian nightlife.
Our honest recommendation: Vilamoura for a classier or mixed-age hen, Albufeira for a nightlife-first blowout, Lagos if the sea and scenery matter most.
Best time of year for an Algarve hen weekend
The sweet spot is May to September. July and August are the warmest (highs around 29°C) but busiest and priciest. The insider's pick is the shoulder season, June and September: warm sun, sea around 20°C, everything running, fewer crowds and better availability.
The must-do hen activities
- Catamaran / boat party (the hero). Sun, sea, music, drinks and the whole group on the water. Book the boat party.
- Beach clubs. Day beds, cocktails and a DJ — Vilamoura's classier, Albufeira's livelier.
- Cocktail-making or dance class. A proper laugh and a brilliant icebreaker.
- Villa pool day. Your own pool, a bar, music, inflatables and games.
- Spa / pamper session. Massages, facials and fizz before the evening.
- Group dinners. Tables that take groups, with drinks packages sorted.
A sample 3-day Algarve hen itinerary
Day 1 – Friday: Arrive & warm up. Land at Faro, private transfer to your villa. Prosecco by the pool, then dinner and cocktails in Vilamoura marina or Albufeira Old Town.
Day 2 – Saturday: The big one. Late brunch, then the catamaran boat party. Back to glam up, dinner with a drinks package, then out to the beach club or The Strip.
Day 3 – Sunday: Recover & fly. Slow brunch, a lazy hour by the pool or a spa treatment, group photos, transfer back to Faro.
Where to stay: why a villa beats a hotel
Book a villa. Many hotels quietly refuse or restrict hen and stag groups, or split you across scattered rooms. A private villa gives you your own pool, your own space and nobody policing the group — usually better value per head, everyone under one roof. We match the villa to your group and area, with zero agency markup.
Getting there: Faro airport & transfers
Everyone flies into Faro (FAO), well served by UK budget airlines. From Faro it's roughly 25km to Vilamoura (about half an hour), similar to Albufeira, and a longer scenic run west to Lagos. We arrange private group transfers door-to-door.
How to plan it without the stress (book a local, direct)
The UK reseller sites at the top of Google are, more often than not, agencies reselling the exact activities we run, with their margin baked into your price. We're the opposite — we're here, we own the relationships, and there's no middleman markup. One message, one local team, one bill with nothing hidden in it.
Not set on the Algarve? We run the same weekends in the capital — see our Lisbon hen party options — and up north in Porto.

Algarve hen party FAQ
Will it be dead if we go off-season?
No. May, June, September and early October are our secret weapon: warm sun, a swimmable sea, everything running, and far fewer crowds than August.
Is the Algarve good for a classier, grown-up hen?
Absolutely. Base in Vilamoura, do marina beach clubs, a spa morning, a private catamaran and stylish seafood dinners, and skip The Strip.
How far ahead should we book?
For a summer weekend, aim for 3–6 months ahead. Booking a 2027 date? Lock it in now from a low deposit and hold today's price.
Do we have to book a whole package, or can we just do the boat?
Either. Book a full multi-day weekend or just the individual bits.
How big a group does this work for?
From an intimate handful up to big 20-plus squads. We scale the villa, transfers and tables to fit.
