A PROPER WHISKY TASTING IN LISBON
Six premium whiskies — single malts, blended Scotch, Irish whiskey and a bourbon for comparison — guided by a genuine enthusiast who knows how to make the subject accessible and entertaining rather than pompous. You'll learn to nose properly, understand the differences between Scottish regions and styles, and discover why the same liquid tastes completely different depending on what you've just eaten. Dark chocolate and charcuterie pairings included. A cigar add-on is available on request.
The whisky tasting is one of the most sophisticated afternoon activities on a stag weekend in Lisbon. Groups that book it are typically mixed — some genuine whisky enthusiasts, some complete beginners, some who think they know whisky. The guide pitches the session perfectly for all three. By the end of the 90 minutes everyone has learned something substantial and the debates about the best dram carry on well into dinner.
The session covers everything from peaty Islay malts through smooth Speyside single malts, a quality Irish whiskey for comparison, and a premium bourbon that surprises almost everyone. The guide runs the session informally — it's a tasting, not a lecture — and the conversation and debate between group members about which whisky is best is consistently the highlight. A blind tasting challenge finishes the session and the results are rarely what anyone expects.

WHAT IT ACTUALLY FEELS LIKE
The session runs 90 minutes starting at 3pm or 5pm in a private tasting room in central Lisbon. The guide opens with a short introduction to whisky regions and production — why Islay whiskies are peaty, why Speyside is smooth, how Irish whiskey differs from Scotch, what makes bourbon different. Then you start tasting.
Each whisky is presented with its region, distillery story, age and ideal food pairing. The dark chocolate and charcuterie pairings are the surprise — the way a quality 70% chocolate transforms a peated Islay whisky is something most group members have never experienced. The format is conversational and social — everyone discusses what they're tasting, what they notice, what they prefer. By the fourth whisky the group is engaged in proper whisky debate.
The cigar add-on is the best upgrade if your group wants the full experience. Sitting with a good dram and a cigar in a private Lisbon tasting room produces the kind of evening that doesn't fit easily into the normal stag do format. Most groups combine the whisky tasting with a Portuguese dinner afterwards and then a bar crawl or VIP club entry to finish. Book the full package and we'll handle timing.
I came in thinking I knew whisky. I left realising I knew nothing — in the best possible way. The guide was outstanding. The peated Islay malt with the dark chocolate pairing was one of the best things I've ever tasted.
BUILT FOR SOPHISTICATED STAG GROUPS
The whisky tasting is primarily booked by stag groups who want a sophisticated afternoon activity before the evening out. Groups with genuine whisky enthusiasts love it, but so do complete beginners — the guide pitches the session for mixed experience levels. Mixed-age stag groups find it particularly good as it gives everyone something to engage with.
For hen parties, the whisky tasting is less common but absolutely available on request. Hen groups who book it typically include a whisky enthusiast or two and come out of the session converts. The cigar add-on creates the most Instagrammable hen activity imaginable.
Minimum group size is 6, maximum 20. The session works for groups with mixed experience and mixed palates — the guide adapts to the room. Non-drinkers can participate with premium non-alcoholic alternatives paired alongside the whiskies.
REAL REVIEWS FROM REAL GROUPS
Over 500 groups have booked through Fun in Portugal since 2008. These are what they say about whisky tasting lisbon specifically.
The guide was exceptional — passionate, knowledgeable and genuinely funny. The peated Islay with dark chocolate was a revelation. Everyone in the group left wanting more. Brilliant session.
As a Scotsman I was sceptical about a whisky tasting in Portugal. I was completely wrong. The selection was excellent, the guide knew his stuff and the blind tasting caused a proper argument. Loved every minute.
The cigar add-on was the best decision we made. Sitting with a good whisky and a cigar in a private room in Lisbon — genuinely felt like the most sophisticated thing I've ever done on a stag.

Nothing at all. The guide starts from scratch and builds up — complete beginners and enthusiasts both get a lot from the session. Pairs well with the beer tasting or wine tasting for groups wanting multiple sessions.
Very — it's one of the most requested add-ons for stag groups. We arrange premium Havana cigars paired with the guide's recommended dram. Just mention it when enquiring.
