About Segway Tour Lisbon
The segway tour is the laziest way to see Lisbon — which is the entire point. Lisbon has seven hills, and after the first night out nobody in the group wants to walk up them. Two hours on a segway covers four times the ground of a walking tour, with zero leg burn. Plus the balance learning curve is genuinely funny for the first 10 minutes, which gets the group laughing before the real sightseeing starts.
Route covers the Baixa grid, the riverfront, Alfama and Chiado. Local English-speaking guide leads the convoy and gives the history. Segways are the proper upright Ninebot models, automatic, top speed capped at 20 km/h in the city, quiet and stable. Training is 15 minutes in a flat square before the group heads out — pretty much everyone masters it in 5.
More About Segway Tour Lisbon
Segways work shockingly well in Lisbon because the old town is a mix of flat squares (easy) and cobbled hills (slow and steady). The modern Ninebot machines we use handle both fine — much better than the original models people tried years ago. Groups that are worried about being the 'tourist on a segway' cliché are usually won over after 15 minutes when they realise they are covering Alfama without breaking a sweat.
Route highlights
Start: Praça do Comércio, the big riverside square. 15-minute training in the flat.
Section 1: Baixa grid streets, Rossio, Praça da Figueira, up Rua Augusta.
Section 2: Up to Alfama via the back routes — São Jorge Castle walls, Miradouro de Santa Luzia for group photos.
Section 3: Down the river path to Cais do Sodré, across to Chiado, finish at Pink Street or Bairro Alto, ready for the next activity.
Fitness, age, skills
Riders must be 14+ and weigh under 120 kg (segway limit). No prior experience needed — the 15-minute training covers everything. Basic balance is enough. Hungover riders are fine but steady. Rain cancels the tour (rescheduled or refunded).
Best paired with
A morning segway tour into an afternoon food tour or wine tasting — the segway handles the sightseeing so the afternoon is all about eating and drinking.
