During this tour we will also visit one of the world most famous monuments – the Monastery of Jeronimos and Vasco da Gama’s resting place, designated as World Heritage Site by UNESCO in 1983.
We will see the world’s largest collection of magnificent coaches, once belonging to Europe’s royal dynasties; will glimpse at the residence of the Portuguese President and visit the Maritime Museum to hear the story of Portugal´s pioneering role in world exploration at sea; will learn about archaeological finds homed and exhibited at the Lisbon’s Archaeology Museum and pass by the Modern Cultural Centre of Belém, with regular exhibitions and international events, while tasting the local “Pastéis de Belém” (custard tarts).
Belém is the historic heart of Lisbon, where visitors can see and marvel at Europe’s most prominent architectural monuments. Belém is also the home of the famous Belém Tower. Part of a defence system commissioned by King John II, the fortified tower played a significant role in the Portuguese maritime discoveries of 16th century.
